What Is a COI, and Why Do I Need One?

What Is a COI?

COI stands for Certificate Of Insurance (Confirmation Of Insurance in Canada).

This document serves as proof that your business is insured, and it is a requirement to book events with Roaming Hunger. They can be uploaded to your Dashboard or emailed to vendors@roaminghunger.com. We will accept them in many formats, so long as they meet all of the requirements listed below:

Roaming Hunger's COI Requirements

  1. It must have a Commercial General Liability Policy with the following coverages:
    1. $1 million each occurrence
    2. $2 million general aggregate
  2. That policy must be active, not expired.
  3. The Certificate Holder must be Roaming Hunger, LLC with our full, correct address:
    1. 1001 Gayley Ave, Ste 24220
      FIRST FLOOR
      Los Angeles, CA 90024
  4. The COI must include an additional insured endorsement for "Roaming Hunger, LLC, including all related entities, as their interest may appear."

Here is how that looks on a common type of COI:

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do I need commercial general liability coverage? Isn't automobile liability enough?
    • Automobile liability only covers a vehicle while it is driving. General liability takes over once you are parked and serving at an event.
  • I just uploaded my COI last week; why am I getting an email asking for it again?
    • Check the policy expiration date on your COI. If you uploaded the COI on September 2, but the policy expires the next day on September 3, you must submit the renewed COI.
  • What name and address do I need to put in the Certificate Holder space?
    • Roaming Hunger, LLC
      1001 Gayley Ave, Ste 24220
      FIRST FLOOR
      Los Angeles, CA 90024
  • Why do I need to add Roaming Hunger, LLC as an additional insured?
    • Roaming Hunger books hundreds of events nationwide every day. Since we can't send a representative to monitor every event we book, we ask each vendor to add us as an additional insured on their liability policy in case something goes wrong (injury, illness, damage to property, etc.).
    • Basically, it's a gesture of goodwill that the vendor will take financial responsibility in case the client takes legal action for damages caused by the vendor.
  • Will adding Roaming Hunger, LLC as an additional insured double my premium?
    • Every insurer is different, which makes this a difficult question to answer. Some charge more; others charge nothing. Check with your insurance provider to find out for sure.
  • I do business outside the USA; do I still need to add Roaming Hunger, LLC as an additional insured?
    • Yes, it is still a requirement in countries outside the United States.
